If You’re Sick of Online Hype, Check Out the Third Tribe

I’ve been online for a long time — since 1996 when I first started my business. And I’ve seen a lot of changes. Some good, some not so good. But one thing I’ve never gotten used to was the “standard” sales page hype. It turns my stomach.

You know what I’m talking about:

THE BIG RED HEADLINES IN ALL CAPS
followed by tons of yellow highlighting
and a few testimonials (from the same people over and over!)

Spare me please! There is no faster way to get me to leave a website than this sales format. Do you feel the same way too?

So I found it interesting (and refreshing!) that a few of the folks I regularly follow on the interwebs — that feel the same way I do about hype marketing — are working to create a community on the web where people can learn how to sell and make money online using internet marketing strategies without all that hype.

I chose not to join when the community first opened in January of 2010 because I already participate in two online communities — the elite mastermind group run by Lynn Terry and the Problogger community. There are just so many hours in the day, right?

But something new has happened and now I’ve taken the leap into the Third Tribe. And it is an awesome community! On top of the forum — where you can build relationships, get help and help others — the community also includes recorded online (actionable) seminars that you can download and listen to at your leisure. I’ve barely scratched the surface, but plan on listening to all of them. You never know what one take away might make all the difference in your business. And even though I’ve been around a while, and have taught plenty of people my techniques for making a passive income online, there’s always room for growth.

Right now the community membership will cost you $47 a month, but I decided to take the leap because tomorrow it goes up to $97. That’s a pretty steep jump, but even at that price it will be a bargain and a great investment in your business growth. If you are at a point in your business where you could benefit from this type of community, I highly recommend it. Don’t take on a monthly debt you can’t afford, but if you can swing it I’m sure you’ll get a return on your investment.

Will you join me over at the Third Tribe?

P.S. Please let me know if you do join, I’d love to help you out there.

I think this is promising. But I still need to think about it. Nice article by the way.

    • Denise O'Berry says:

Thanks Tim. Thinking about it means you’re not ready for the help. And that’s OK. It’s a great community and will be there when you are ready.

    Excellent post!

Getting access to a targeted audience that truly appreciates good sales copy also requires targeted list building to accomplish better results. One needs to be smart in the affiliate marketing world and there are many ways of getting targeted quality traffic to your site and exposing it to targeted content meant purposefully for them.

The common perception is “wait for a prospect to show up to the squeeze page, capture his or her email and email back with an offer later”.. Unfortunately this doesn’t work on all occasions.

Smart affiliate marketers are using cutting-edge tools like SEPCON, http://www.sepcon.info/ to beat their competition to the customers. It’s probably one of the most powerful tools new internet and affiliate marketers have at their disposal.

Thanks Angelina. Yes, building a targeted list is essential for any busy. Thanks for the heads up on Sepcon (your business??). I had never heard of them before. They are playing in a pretty crowded field.

Great mini review, I’ve caught the third tribe on a few other sites and really appreciate their message. I don’t know if I at that point just yet although my business is entirely online, just need a bit more formulation. Good stuff you got here denise.

    • Denise O'Berry says:

Thanks Rob. When you’re ready to make the leap, it will be there. Appreciate you stopping by.

Thanks Denise! This actually looks more promising than LinkedIn in a few ways because from what I saw it doesn’t look like they limit the number of contacts you can make the way LinkedIn does even with a paid profile. I appreciate the tip.

  5. Meg says:

    Hi Denise,
Thanks for the review. I’ve been hearing about Third Tribe from Lynn Terry and Internet Marketing This Week, etc. I’m putting it at the top of my list of paid membership forums to join when my income goes up. Right now I belong to Lynn Terry and Michelle MacPhearson’s groups. We all learn from each other thanks again for the info.
