Are we having fun yet? As we get older, we often have a tendency to take things much too seriously — yes, I’m guilty.
Just watch a bunch of kids play. They’re happy, carefree, make up the rules as they go and they don’t worry about who’s watching.
If you own your own business, your choices to mix a little fun in the game are flexible. After all, why do you work for yourself anyway?
An email highlighting the video below – the Eight Irresistible Principles of Fun – popped into my email box this morning (hat tip to Chris Brogan) and it sends a powerful message. It will take you a quick five minutes to watch.
Good, huh? Here are my two favorite principles from the video.
#6 – Stop Being Busy
So many small business owners think that busyness equates to business and it couldn’t be further from the truth. If you’re working on something that doesn’t move you closer to accomplishing your goals, it’s just busyness.
#8 – Start Something
Yes! Stop with the “if onlys” and “I wish I coulds.” You can. But it takes action and often a good bit of work. Just start.
Principles 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 are all really good ones too. These two just happen to be my favorite. Many thanks to BoxOfCrayons.biz for your creativity and sharing.
What do you think of the eight principles in the video?
- To Improve Cash Flow, Manage Your Business Fat
- Are You Getting Work Done or Doing Business?
- Make Sure Your Business Provides The Freedom You Deserve
- It’s Time To Add Online Video To Your Marketing Effort
- Improve Cash Flow with Consistent Business Development

Very creative and inspiring video! All work no play makes John a little dull boy.
Most successful entrepreneurs all share the same common values, and that is having a passion for what they do, goes to show how important it is.
Ever find yourself doing something you love, and you’re just so naturally motivated that you spend your time in the best way you can achieving the most out of it, then you can learn how to cash in on your passion.
I recommend reading the book “Crush It” by Gary Vaynerchuk
