Okay. So raise your hand if you want more publicity for your small business. I thought so. More publicity can bring more customers your way and improve your bottom line.
But, as with anything else, you need to take the time to put together an action plan so you’ll be sure to make things happen when you want them to. If you have no publicity plan, it’s real easy to let things pass you by and miss some big opportunities to get the word out about your business.
You already know what a fan I am of Marcia Yudkin’s book 6 Steps to Free Publicity, and that hasn’t changed a bit. It’s a book that every small business owner should have to increase exposure for your business. (I’ve given away so many copies of this book to clients, I’ve lost count!)
At any rate, back to the plan. It helps the creation of your plan if you have some ideas to begin with. And I just happen to have a few of those in my back pocket.
Just last week I got a nice surprise in my email box. Paul Krupin from Direct Contact PR sent out the most comprehensive, awesome publicity calendar for me to share with you. It covers publicity activities for every single month of 2010 in addition to reminders of special dates coming up.
Paul says, “Each year for the past five years I’ve created an annual publicity plan to help people look ahead and map out their ideas for publicity throughout the year. It’s a free pdf file download I just give away to anyone who can benefit.”
Here’s what it includes (for free!):
- Month-at-a-glance roadmap to holidays throughout the year
- Lead time for each holiday
- Weird and unusual national and world holidays
- Plus much more!
The special design makes it easy to develop a detailed personalized framework of key dates and events so you can map out your publicity strategy (along with ideas to promote your book, product, business, organization or event in 2010) and make sure you take advantage of the needed lead time to get your message out to the right audience.
And, guess what? You can use it for ideas to write about on your small business blog too.
Just click here to download the free publicity planner now. I think it’s super cool and will really help you target your activities this year. What do you think? Please leave a comment.

Great post Denise! Goals are dreams, plans make goals a possibility, and efficient action makes goals a reality.
Focus on how you can increase more leads and improve your conversion rate.
Great post. Thanks for the info and the download.
Thanks to both of you. Now remember to come back here in a month and tell me how you got more publicity by using that free plan. Getting the plan is easy, putting it into action is a bit tougher for most people.
