In business, it’s a fact of life that first impressions are important. Many prospects won’t tell you why you didn’t get a sale, but often it has to do with perceptions on the first encounter.
Fair? Maybe not, but all too true. That goes for your email address too. I cringe sometimes at the email addresses I see small business owners use.
I’m fully aware of all the concerns about spam (believe me — I get my share), but if you want to be taken seriously from an electronic perspective you’ve got to demonstrate a willingness to be professional.
That means your email address should be something like yourname@yourdomain.com or sales@yourdomain.com, not bobbyandsally@yahoo.com or toocute@hotmail.com
This issue was confirmed a few years ago in a survey of 1500 consumers. Over 88 percent indicated an email address that includes your domain name represents a more professional and trustworthy organization.
